NEW YORK — More passengers rode the Long Island Rail Road in 2013 than any commuter rail line in the country, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The agency runs the New York City transit system, as well as the LIRR and Metro-North commuter line that serves passengers north of the city. MTA figure show that in 2013, the LIRR carried 83,384,250 riders. That is about 5,700 more than Metro-North’s 83,378,505.
