NEW YORK — Two Long Island Rail Road trains collided this morning west of Jamaica station in the Queens section of New York City, causing delays of as much as an hour on the busiest U.S. commuter line.

The trains were both leaving the station and heading westbound toward Manhattan when they “bumped” each other at low speed at about 7:30 a.m. local time, LIRR spokesman Rich Mendelson said. One person reported neck and back injuries, he said.

The collision forced the railroad to halt trains between Jamaica and Pennsylvania Station in Manhattan for about 25 minutes, Mendelson said. Service resumed at about 7:55 a.m. with delays of as much as 60 minutes in both directions.

The trains involved in the accident were removed from service as an investigation is being conducted, Mendelson said.
