PITTSBURGH — The cause of a locomotive fire in Westmoreland County early yesterday is being investigated by agents of CSX Transportation, a spokeswoman said.
The crew of an eastbound train reported the fire in one of three locomotives hauling 111 cars from Willard, Ohio, to Cumberland, Md., CSX spokeswoman Misty Skipper said.
The fire, reported at 12:10 a.m. in South Huntingdon, was extinguished by local firefighters, Skipper said.
No injuries were reported.
A small amount of diesel fuel leaked from the damaged train engine.
A hazardous materials expert from CSX was on the scene and the fuel was contained and cleaned up, Skipper said.
The track was reopened at about 4:40 a.m.
