SEATTLE — A train derailed in Seattle on Sunday afternoon, blocking northbound East Marginal Way and causing traffic problems.

After the train jumped the tracks, the diesel engine ended up in one lane of the roadway.

A spokesman for Burlington Northern Santa Fe said the derailment occurred in the yard and did not affect the mainline.

Railroad officials believe the heavy rains of the last several days caused the track to settle and shift.

Amtrak and freight trains were not affected by the derailment.

Burlington had people on the scene assessing the situation.

No injuries were reported.
