ALBERTON, Mont. — Railroad traffic stopped in both directions around Missoula Tuesday night after a locomotive caught fire. It happened in Alberton, west of Missoula, around 5:30 p.m. Fire officials say the smoke was seen for miles down the interstate. Two crew members on board were able to cut the cargo from the burning locomotive so the fire couldn’t spread.
