CHICAGO — Union Pacific North Line Metra trains were experiencing long delays this morning after a freight train traveling along the same tracks broke down in the north suburban Lake Bluff area.

Train No. 300 arrived in downtown Chicago nearly an hour and a half behind schedule, Metra spokesman Tom Miller said.

Two other Union Pacific North trains, Nos. 302 and 304, arrived downtown well behind schedule, according to Miller. No. 302 was 30 minutes late, and No. 304 was running 35 minutes late.

Train Nos. 303 and 307, both heading toward Kenosha, Wis., were canceled. Train No. 306, scheduled to arrive in downtown at 7:17 a.m., was canceled because of mechanical problems.

Metra officials could not say who owned and operated the freight train.
