NEW YORK — The Long Island Rail Road says that just over 95 percent of its commuter trains were on time last year, setting a new record.

A commuter train is considered on time if it reaches its destination within 5 minutes and 59 seconds of its scheduled arrival time.

The railroad, in a statement, says its 245,933 commuter trains had an on time performance of 95.14 percent.

LIRR President Helena Williams said that “being on time is music to our customers’ ears” and credited the dedication shown by the railroad’s employees.
