AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine Governor John Baldacci wants Amtrak’s Downeaster train to expand its service, which links Maine and Massachusetts with stops in New Hampshire.
Baldacci has signed an executive order which includes calling for clearer economic development plans near train stations along the existing route of the Downeaster.
In New Hampshire, the passenger train stops in Dover, Durham and Exeter.
Baldacci’s order could set the stage for passenger service north of Portland (Maine) to Brunswick and Lewiston-Auburn, with seasonal and excursion links to Rockland, Bethel, and other destinations in Maine.
