WILLARD, Ohio — According to the Sandusky Register, a 48-year-old man was found dead on CSX Transportation railroad tracks Sunday morning in Willard, police and railroad officials said.
CSX spokesman Dan Murphy said the man’s body was found in the Willard yard near the railroad track close to North Main Street at about 2:40 a.m.
The man, whose name was not released pending notification of relatives, is believed to be a transient who rode from train to train, Murphy said.
“We believe the trespasser had ridden in on another train,” Murphy said. “He had been seen on a locomotive riding into the yard.”
After the man’s body was found, CSX officials had all trains in the area come to a halt for about an hour in order to find out which train the man had been hit by, Murphy said.
It appears the man was struck by a train traveling westbound from Cleveland to Garrett, Ind., Murphy said.
Huron County Coroner Jeffrey Harwood said Monday more information about the incident would be available later this week pending his investigation.
A medicine bottle found on the body and the man’s tattoos were used to further identify him, Willard police said in a news release Monday.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Dr. Robert Secor, police said.
