JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville authorities say a 27-year-old man illegally opened a bridge, forcing a train to make an emergency stop to prevent it from careening into a river.
Police said Andrew Hasty was on his boat March 26 when he came upon a closed drawbridge. He allegedly broke into the bridge tender’s building and activated controls to open the bridge. Police said he jumped back in his boat, leaving the bridge open.
A passing CSX train was forced to stop to prevent going into the Trout River, causing a significant traffic delay.
