(The Cordele Dispatch posted the following story by Cindy Bishop on its website on October 12.)

CORDELE, Ga. — A local man who was headed to work Friday for the afternoon shift at a local chemical company had quite a stroke of bad luck. Not only was he hit by a train, he faces several charges stemming from the wreck.

Willie Allen of Cordele was charged with failure to yield, driving without license and driving under the influence.

Reports show that at approximately 4:15 p.m. that afternoon, Allen of Cordele was traveling south on Cape Road as he approached a railroad crossing. Allen failed to stop for the stop sign and was struck on the left side of his 1990 Chevrolet Prism by a westbound CSX train driven by Bruce Giddens of Ocilla.
