Culpeper, Va. — A Mitchell’s man was injured Saturday night after an Amtrak train struck his truck.

Jonathan Delane Weaver, 34, was driving across a private railroad crossing when a southbound Amtrak train struck his 2006 Ford F350.

According to Trooper W.L. Lyle of the Virginia State Police, the train was traveling approximately 75 miles per hour at the point of impact at 8:09 p.m.

The train was powered by two engines and was carrying nine cars with approximately 175 passengers onboard.

The railroad crossing is a grade crossing on Weaver’s property, meaning there are only signs announcing the crossing and no lights or safety arms.

The truck was struck on the right side of the cab, spinning it around and it eventually ended up down an embankment.

No charges have been filed, but the investigation is continuing Lyle said.

Weaver was flown to INOVA Fairfax and his condition was unavailable Sunday evening.
