GALLATIN, Tenn. — A male suffered serious injures in a train accident in Gallatin on Monday, Oct. 4.
The male, who was still unidentified at 9:30 p.m., received a head trauma and was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with a LifeFlight helicopter, Gallatin Police Department officers at the scene said.
Between six and eight GPD patrols responded to the railroad tracks parallel to Tulip Poplar Road at about 9 p.m.
After searching half a mile along the tracks with flashlights, they found the male laying on the ground next to the tracks between Village Green Boulevard and Sumner Hall Drive near the Highway 109 overhead bridge.
Officials blocked traffic from Sumner Hall Drive’s intersections with Belvedere Drive to Village Green Boulevard between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. Vanderbilt LifeFlight picked up the victim from the parking lot of the Sumner County Administration Building around 9:40 p.m.
It is unclear if the male sustained any additional injuries. The accident remains under investigation.
“The investigation will be handled by CSX,” GPD Sgt. James Stinson said after the accident.
The Jacksonville, Fla.-based CSX Corporation, a national leading supplier of rail-based freight transportation, encompasses about 21,000 miles of track in 23 states, the District of Columbia and the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec, according to the company’s website.
The Gallatin Fire Department and the Sumner County Emergency Medical Services were also at the scene with several trucks.
