WASHINGTON, D.C. — Afternoon commuters taking MARC’s Camden Line should expect delays of up to half an hour, according to Maryland Transit officials, because a freight train derailed in Jessup this morning.

MARC expects delays of up to 30 minutes on all trains traveling through the Jessup area this afternoon. Train 857 from Camden Yards at 5:50 p.m. and train 854 from Union Station at 6:40 p.m. are canceled.

The MTA said it expected MARC trains to return to their usual schedules Friday morning.

Six cars of a freight train derailed, according to CSX spokeswoman Jane Covington. Five of the cars were empty and the sixth was loaded with paper, Covington said. No injuries were reported.

The train traveling from Philadelphia to Richmond was made up of four locomotives, 73 loaded freight cars and 42 empty cars, Covington said. By 5 p.m., three of the derailed cars were back on the tracks, she said.

Officials said one track is open in the area, and CSX expected to clear the derailed cars by 11 p.m. Thursday, Covington said.

Fans using MARC for the Orioles game tonight are advised to adjust their departure time to arrive in time for the first pitch at 7:05 p.m..
