CLEVELAND, February 17 — The National Labor College/George Meany Center will conduct a series of hazardous materials training courses for both rail workers and community responders in Carteret, N.J., from March 10-13.
Rail workers and local community fire and police departments are invited to participate in the joint training, particularly in light of recent rail tragedies in Texas and South Carolina.
Rail workers who participate in the training are eligible for a stipend of $110 per day. Training is funded by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) and conducted in cooperation with seven rail unions, including the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen.
Training courses address OSHA and DOT requirements for hazmat transportation, and include:
Each course is 6-8 hours and will be held at the Carteret Community Center, Carteret Fire Headquarters (Exit 12, New Jersey Turnpike), 2400 Roosevelt Ave., Carteret, NJ 07008. Dates and times are as follows:
Thursday, March 10: 4 p.m.-10 p.m.
Friday, March 11: 4 p.m.-10 p.m.
Saturday, March 12: 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
