CHICAGO — At least two Metra trains on the North Central line were being delayed this morning after a freight train struck a vehicle in far north suburban Mundelein.

The freight train struck a pickup truck about 6:30 a.m. near Butterfield Road and Illinois Rte. 60, according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller. Fire crews were at the scene as of 7 a.m., and information on injuries was not immediately available.

Miller said the freight train shares the North Central tracks with Metra and was stopped at the scene of the accident. Two Metra trains inbound from Antioch to Chicago were stopped on the tracks as of 7 a.m. A third inbound train would likely be late leaving the Antioch station.

The first outbound train of the morning was due into Vernon Hills at 8:11 a.m., and could also be delayed because of the crash, Miller said. He said commuters should check Metra’s Web site for further updates.
