CHICAGO — Metra is gearing up for traditionally its busiest day of the year — July 3.
On Tuesday, Metra will provide extra train service to accommodate those attending the Grant Park fireworks show, a Metra release said. All lines except the Heritage Corridor will have extra service, featuring late afternoon inbound and post-fireworks outbound trains.
To promote a safe riding experience for passengers, all carry-one baggage is subject to inspection before boarding. In addition, all trains and stations will be patrolled by Metra police and security officers, the release said. Bicycles are also prohibited on all trains Tuesday.
Riders are advised that the Roosevelt Road station (12th Street) will be closed after 9 p.m. and that trains will not pick up outbound passengers at the station after the fireworks show.
Two-day passes and special fares are available for all riders on July 3 and 4. Schedules and other holiday information are available on Metra’s Web site, the release said
