LOS ANGELES — A section of track that was threatened by a wildfire near Porter Ranch has reopened, allowing commuter train service to resume.

Metrolink spokesman Francisco Oaxaca says the track from Ventura County to the Chatsworth station in northwest Los Angeles county reopened shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday. Metrolink’s Ventura County line and Amtrak trains are operating on regular schedules.

Fire officials closed the track Monday afternoon when heavy smoke and ash from the wildfire, which has burned nearly 10,000 acres and destroyed 19 structures. A motorist also died in a smoke-related traffic crash.

Oaxaca says fire officials determined the fire was no longer a threat to train travel.
