SOUTH BEND, Ind. — More people are using Amtrak service between Milwaukee and Chicago.
The company says nearly 618,000 passengers rode the Hiawatha route last year.
That’s about five percent more than the year before.
And it’s the first time ridership has surpassed the 600,000 mark.
More than 59,000 passengers used the route in December.
That’s up 16 percent over the previous year and the most passengers Amtrak has ever carried on the route in December.
Amtrak has seven daily round trips between Milwaukee and Chicago with stops at Mitchell International Airport, Sturtevant, Wisconsin, and Glenview, Illinois.
The service is supported in part by funds from the Wisconsin and Illinois transportation departments.
