MINOT, N.D. — City officials are negotiating with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad over the possibility of shipping containers of organic and other grains.
The city wants to develop an agricultural shipping system with a direct connection to Minneapolis. The products would be shipped from there to seaports for export.
“We couldn’t be more pleased with our reception at BNSF headquarters in Fort Worth (Texas),” Mayor Curt Zimbelman said. “The opportunity to lay out our plan for intermodal shipping in Minot for all of northwestern North Dakota with BNSF officials was very encouraging.”
The meeting was held this week.
“While much work still needs to be done, BNSF is seriously evaluating this proposal and is committed to thoroughly examining what’s required,” said Vann Cunningham, a railroad assistant vice president.
