MINOT, N.D. — Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board are ready to make recommendations for “significant” policy changes to make railroad transportation safer.

That’s how the lead investigator characterizes the final report on the January 18th train derailment near Minot.

Ted Turpin says in the next few weeks, a draft of his final report will be ready for distribution to the parties involved, including Canadian Pacific Railway and tank car manufacturers.

They will get to make comments on the report before a final version of it goes to NTSB board members.

Turpin says he expects a public hearing will be held in June, where his staff will officially present the report to the board.

Lawsuits involving as many an one thousand people are on hold right now, awaiting that final report from the NTSB.
