GREAT FALLS, Mont. — Farmers and grain organization members from throughout Montana told stories about poor rail service to the Surface Transportation Board’s Rail Customer and Public Assistance Program representatives in Malta this week. Harsh winter weather, increased rail shipments of oil, coal, a large corn crop and other products caused severe delays of grain and other rail cars across North Dakota and Montana during the first several months of the year.
