BILLINGS, Mont. — Facing declining shipments of coal, oil and other products, Yellowstone County’s two largest railroads have furloughed family-wage workers to cut costs. In the past two months, Montana Rail Link has furloughed 19 workers in Yellowstone County. Eight of those workers are in the operations department, which includes engineers, dispatchers, trainmasters, foremen, yardmasters, switchmen and crew callers. The BNSF has also furloughed workers in the county, but exact numbers were not available.
