NORFOLK, Va. — Charles W. “Wick” Moorman IV, 53, will succeed David R. Goode as chief executive officer at Norfolk Southern Corp., the Norfolk-based railroad announced Wednesday.
The move, effective Nov. 1, had been expected since Moorman was identified in September 2004 as Goode’s successor when he was named president.
Goode, the railroad’s chairman and CEO, has led the railroad, which operates throughout the eastern United States, since 1992. He is to retire in January when he turns 65.
“Since his elevation to president a year ago, Wick has honed his leadership skills and is prepared to take on even greater responsibility,” Goode said in a statement.
Norfolk Southern also named James A. Hixon executive vice president law and corporate relations, effective Oct. 1. He will oversee the law, government relations and corporate communications departments.
