WASHINGTON — If you like those plush, high-speed Acela trains, you’re in luck.

Starting today, Amtrak is doubling the number of trains between D.C. and New York. There will be four Acela trips out of both Union Station and Penn Station.

Weekend service resumed Saturday. Acela trains are now leaving D.C. twice on Saturdays and once on Sundays. Out of New York, they’ll depart once on Saturdays and twice on Sundays.

The Acela fleet was out of commission for several months after cracks were found in several brake rotors in April. More trains are expected to return to service once they are repaired.
