GRANITEVILLE, S.C. — Over fifty new claims were filed Friday in Aiken County against the Norfolk Southern Railroad. The plaintiffs are victims of the deadly train accident that happened in Graniteville, January 6, 2005.

Toxic chemicals leaked into the air, causing several deaths and long-time health problems to others in the area.

Douglas Schmidt is the attorney who represents many of the the victims of the Graniteville accident. He filed 55 claims over the weekend and says he will file another 50 in the next two weeks.

The statute of limitations will be up on the third anniversary of the crash, in January. That means that individuals who want to take the railroad to court must do so before the January then.
