WILMERDING, Pa. — MotivePower, Inc., a subsidiary of Wabtec Corporation, announced a $12 million order from Amtrak for 10 MP15B switcher locomotives that will be delivered this year.

The new state-of-the-art, 1,500 horsepower work train locomotives will help Amtrak meet its objectives to improve efficiencies and reduce operating costs. The units meet the Environmental Protection Agency’s Tier 1 emissions standards and feature a specially designed low-clearance cab to accommodate tunnels in the New York City area. The locomotives’ cooling systems will be supplied by Young Touchstone, another Wabtec subsidiary.

“This order fits well with our niche of supplying custom-engineered locomotives to transit and commuter rail authorities in North America, and it will help MotivePower meet its plan for this year,” said Mark S. Warner, vice president and general manager for MotivePower, Inc.

Based in Boise, Idaho, MotivePower builds new switcher and commuter locomotives, and provides aftermarket overhaul and fleet maintenance services.
