MONTREAL — The Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which operates several commuter services in the New York City area, has exercised an option to buy 120 more M-7 electric rail cars from Bombardier Transportation for $280 million.
With these options for the MTA-Metro-North Railroad, Bombardier has firm orders for 978 M-7 cars from the MTA commuter railroads. The total value of the firm orders received to date is $2.8 billion, the company announced Thursday.
Work on the new M-7 cars will be built done at Bombardier’s manufacturing site in La Pocatiere, Que., with final assembly and manufacturing done in Plattsburgh, N.Y., and some sub-assembly and manufacturing at Bombardier’s facility in Auburn, N.Y.
