MINOT, N.D. — The North Dakota Public Service Commission is looking at asking the federal Surface Transportation Board to regulate rail rates in the state, according to a report from television station KXMC in Minot.
Governor Hoeven’s proposed budget contains 250-thousand-dollars to hire outside legal help to prepare a case.
Public Service Commissioner Tony Clark says the feds should regulate the rates in cases where a railroad has a virtual monopoly.
Clark says getting a case together for the Surface Transportation Board might take several months.
