SILVER SPRING, Md. — The National Labor College recently welcomed students to its brand new residential facility. The new residence hall features 49 rooms, which can accommodate up to 98 students and includes two (2) suites.

“This new residence hall is long overdue and represents the first phase of a comprehensive plan to increase our capacity and upgrade our aging facilities so that we might better serve our students,” said President Susan J. Schurman.

Each room is wired for internet access. The facility also features a reading room with a spectacular view of the campus. Construction began in early January 2004.

The National Labor College has embarked upon an ambitious campus improvement plan that includes renovations to many existing facilities and construction of a 72,000 square-foot facility with state-of-the-art classrooms, a new dining hall, and cutting-edge distance learning capability. Construction on this facility, known as the Kirkland Center, in honor of the legendary president of the AFL-CIO, is underway and is expected to be completed in early Fall 2005.

“We are so grateful to our Board of Trustees for its commitment to providing our students the best possible educational experience, with state-of-the-art facilities to complement our outstanding academic program,” President Schurman added.
