CLEVELAND, July 10 — The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) is accepting applications and resumes for a position on the National President’s Staff in the BLET’s National Division Office in Cleveland, Ohio.
Duties and responsibilities for the position are as follows:
• Providing necessary staff support for the National President in his general oversight of the National Division, including interpretation and application of internal BLET law, and National Division inter-departmental and staff operations. Prior union administration experience is preferred.
• Reviewing proposed collective bargaining agreements, including costing and contractual language, for compliance with civil and Brotherhood law and policy. Substantial experience in negotiating and enforcing collective bargaining agreements in a Railway Labor Act setting is preferred.
• Providing assistance to BLET subordinate bodies in the fulfillment of their responsibilities under Brotherhood law.
• Handling membership correspondence and communications, and researching, drafting and editing general correspondence and communications.
This position works under the direction of the National President, and may be assigned other duties as required. Members employed in this position also are subject to the following provisions of the BLET Bylaws: National Division Rules Sections 7(g), 13(a), 22(b), 29(b) and 44; Local Division Rules Sections 2(b), 25(a) and 25(b); and Legislative Board Rules Section 2(b).
The successful candidate will be a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative work environment. He or she also will possess superior research, analytical, and communications skills, both oral and written, as well as a high level of proficiency in pertinent software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Internet navigation and research).
This position requires residency in or a willingness to relocate to Cleveland, Ohio, frequently working non-traditional hours and occasional extensive business travel.
