(The AFL-CIO issued the following news release on August 16.)
WASHINGTON — A new website designed to help workers who are concerned they could lose their overtime protection under the Bush Administration’s new regulation will be unveiled during a press conference call Thursday, August 19 at 1pm EST. The new Bush Administration overtime pay regulations are due to take effect Monday, August 23.
The “Ask A Lawyer” website, sponsored by Working America, a new national organization for working people affiliated with the AFL-CIO, will answer questions from people seeking information about the new regulation and its impact on workers. The new website will be launched Thursday, August 19 at www.workingamerica.org. Attorney Baldwin Robertson will field questions and provide crucial information to help workers understand the changes implemented by the Bush Administration.
Up to six million workers are at risk of losing their overtime protection and they come from all walks of life – registered nurses, police sergeants, insurance claims adjusters, and assistant managers at retail and food chains, for example. The “Ask A Lawyer” website will be a valuable resource for workers across the country.
In addition, working people will hold town hall meetings and press conferences on or around August 23rd through Working America to call on President Bush to repeal the overtime pay cut. Events are scheduled in Cincinnati, Cleveland, St. Louis, Miami and Dayton.
