NEWARK, N.J. — The NJ Transit system that Gov. Phil Murphy called a “national disgrace” and vowed to fix is now under scrutiny by other powerful Democrats who said continuing problems that frustrate commuters have spurred them to investigate. A new state Senate Select Committee announced Tuesday — to be chaired by state Senate President Stephen Sweeney — is set to investigate the reasons for NJ Transit’s continued problems and develop an action plan to turn the agency around.
