(The National Mediation Board issued the following on June 3, 2011.)

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Mediation Board (NMB) is pleased to announce that Andy Nordgren has accepted a position as a Mediator for the agency. In this capacity, he will mediate Airline and Railroad Collective Bargaining and Grievance Mediation cases. He is expected to join the NMB this summer.

The National Mediation Board is an independent Federal agency established by the Railway Labor Act, which governs labor-management relations of nearly 500 railroads and 100 airlines in the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii and the US territories.

Mr. Nordgren brings to the board in-depth labor relations experience, having flown as Pilot for American Eagle Airlines since 1998 and, for most of that time, serving as the pilot union’s Negotiating Committee Chairman. In that position, Andy resolved grievances using multiple Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) techniques. He also served as a member of the union’s International Contract Bargaining Committee, coordinating cross-carrier collective bargaining.

Mr. Nordgren is a graduate of Lehigh University. Additionally, he has completed specific negotiations training, the National Mediation Board’s Interest-based Bargaining training program, and used NMB-promoted online dispute-resolution techniques such as web-based Online Conferencing and Online Collaboration Workspaces.
