PITTSBURGH — Maglev is not a done deal for western Pennsylvania yet, but Westmoreland County commissioners are proposing a new route for the high-speed train, reports the PittsburghChannel.com.

The route would run from Monroeville, following the turnpike near Route 30, then veer east and run parallel to Route 136 in Hempfield.

It would end at the Amos K. Hutchinson Bypass and Route 136. A Maglev station would be built at that location.

Commissioners said the new plan would eliminate fewer homes and businesses than previous proposals. They are scheduled to present the plan next week.

The Westmoreland County leg of the Maglev route is the final section in the project, which would link Pittsburgh International Airport and Greensburg.

Pittsburgh is competing with Baltimore-Washington D.C. to land federal money for the project.
