WISHRAM, Wash. — Burlington Northern Santa Fe has reopened its tracks near Wishram, where a freight train derailed yesterday afternoon.
Burlington Northern spokesman Gus Melonas said the line was back up and running around 12:15 this afternoon.
Crews laid 700 feet of new track overnight.
It’s not clear what caused 13 cars to run off the tracks west of Wishram, near the Columbia River in Klickitat County.
Sparks from the derailment caused fires that burned about 850 acres before firefighters contained them yesterday evening.
