NEWARK — NJ Transit announced Tuesday that it set a ridership record with a 4.1 percent gain in passengers.
The agency ended the year with 250.9 million trips, compared with the previous year’s 241.1 million trips on its buses and trains. Rail ridership was up 6 percent overall, with the greatest gains on commuter routes to New York and Northern New Jersey. However off-peak travel was up 5 percent, and weekend ridership rose 7 percent, according to preliminary numbers released Tuesday.
Bus travel increased 1.4 percent.
