HOBOKEN, N.J. — A train had a “minor derailment” in the yard outside of Hoboken Terminal at 4:40 this afternoon, NJ Transit spokeswoman Penny Bassett Hackett said, causing 20 to 30 minute delays this evening on trains leaving Hoboken on the Main/Bergen County, Pascack Valley and Port Jervis lines.
There were no passengers aboard the train at the time – only NJ Transit employees, Bassett Hackett said, and no injuries were reported. Six train tracks were inaccessible tonight because of the incident, causing the delay.
“Remember, this is the peak of our peak rush hour,” Bassett Hackett said, “so this is understandably impacting people getting home.”
Hoboken Police said they sent three officers to the scene to help keep everyone calm while they waited.
