WALDWICK, N.J. — Commuters who use the Port Jervis line should find trains running on schedule for the morning rush Tuesday.

NJ Transit, which operates the line for Metro-North Railroad, said the derailment that snarled the evening rush Monday had been cleared about 6 p.m. and would have no impact on Tuesday’s operations.

Two cars of an empty eight-car Norfolk Southern freight train derailed about 1:40 p.m. Monday at the company’s yard in Waldwick, N.J., blocking two of the three tracks on NJ Transit’s Main/Bergen line – which becomes the Port Jervis line in New York. No injuries were reported.

The incident forced NJ Transit to cancel and combine some rush-hour trains and warn commuters of 30- to 60-minute delays. Norfolk Southern had no immediate explanation for the derailment and said the cause will be investigated.
