The executive director of NJ Transit said Wednesday that if Amtrak’s proposal for a new pair of rail tunnels under the Hudson River succeeds, NJ Transit would likely benefit.
Benefits would include the replacement of the 100-year-old Portal Bridge — a two-track bridge over the Hackensack River that handles more than 400 NJ Transit and Amtrak trains a day, and the addition of new rail tracks that will allow NJ Transit to run 13 additional trains each hour.
