PHILADELPHIA — NJ Transit fares will not rise this year, but 2010 may be a different story.
Richard Sarles, the agency’s executive director, says the agency will not raise ticket prices for bus, train and light rail in the fiscal year that starts July 1. But he did not rule out a fare increase for fiscal year 2010. Sarles says the agency would have to assess the economy, ridership levels and other factors before making a decision.
Sarles said the agency had recently been raising fares every two or three years but once went roughly a decade without an increase.
