NEWARK, N.J. — Students with valid college identification can ride New Jersey transit buses, light rail and commuter trains for free during the week of Sept. 8-15, the agency announced Wednesday.
The free week is intended to encourage students to use public transportation and demonstrate the agency’s variety of transit options and destinations.
The agency also announced a pilot program with seven universities, offering a 25 percent discount to students who buy monthly passes online.
“Our hope is that once they become a part of the work force, students will already know the benefits of using public transportation for their daily commute,” NJ Transit Executive Director George Warrington said in a statement.
