New Jersey Transit recently opened a fully enclosed service and inspection facility and yardmaster’s control tower building at Morrisville Yard in Morrisville, Pa., according to STV Inc., which designed the two structures.

Each of the two, 1200-foot-long tracks inside the inspection facility can accommodate a 12-car train and up to two electric locomotives. The facility features side access platforms, under car pits, locomotive roof-top platforms and depressed floors for maintenance accessibility. The facility also includes monorail cranes for servicing coach rooftop air conditioning units, mobile gantry platforms to access coach rooftops, locomotive and cab car sanding systems, a wheel truing facility, mechanical shop and offices.

The facility will service Northeast Corridor electric trains, including double-decker trains.
