(The Asbury Park Press posted the following article on its website on June 20.)

ASBURY PARK, N.J. — Central Jersey commuters who use NJ Transit will get good and bad news starting July 1.

Rail and bus fares increase that day, but riders also will find new easier-to-read timetables and the elimination of feeder fares for transferring to local buses, light rail or the Newark City subway.

Rail and bus fares are scheduled to increase an average of 9.9 percent. That increase will be higher for riders who travel off-peak or outside the morning and evening rush periods. Off-peak travelers will see their discount reduced from 25 percent to 15 percent on top of the average fare increase.

The new easier-to-read rail schedules will take effect July 3, and will be color coded by line. They also will be designed to have weekday schedules on one page.
