NEWARK, N.J. — NJ Transit is having a tough time finding parts or getting repairs for dozens of trains damaged by salt water after being left in rail yards in Kearny and Hoboken during Hurricane Sandy — a shortage that might hamper plans to restore full service to Hoboken Terminal next month.
The trains — including dual-powered locomotives that can operate on either diesel fuel or electricity and 77 double-decker trains, formally referred to as multilevels — are in limbo as they await wheels or repairs.
