In a brief published on July 1, the National Mediation Board announced that Loren Sweatt, a Republican, has assumed Chairmanship. Deirdre Hamilton and Linda Puchala, both Democrats, will remain as Members of the Board.
The NMB also confirmed on July 1 that, pursuant to the Railway Labor Act, Gate Gourmet and the Employee Representative Council comprised of UNITE HERE and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) were released by the NMB from statutory mediation on June 29, and that a 30-day cooling-off period began on June 30. Absent agreements or the establishment of a Presidential Emergency Board (PEB), the parties could exercise Self-Help as of 12:01 a.m. EDT, July 30.
