MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Amtrak has resorted to busing City of New Orleans passengers between Hammond, La., and the Crescent City to get around a bridge outage at the Bonnet Carre Spillway.

There’s no effect on the fabled train’s timetable for scheduled service to New Orleans, Memphis and Chicago, Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said Tuesday.

The Canadian National Railway closed the bridge for repairs Sunday afternoon after an Amtrak engineer noticed a rough ride. The spillway diverts Mississippi River floodwaters into Lake Pontchartrain, bypassing New Orleans.
