MORRISON, Mo. — Railroad officials were investigating why an Amtrak passenger train derailed Wednesday on its trip from St. Louis to Kansas City.

Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said none of the train’s 26 passengers and four crew was injured when one of the cars slid off the track at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Morrison, a town just outside of Hermann, east of Jefferson City.

The train was bound for Kansas City from St. Louis, with stops in between, when one set of wheels on the first car lost contact with the rail, Magliari said.

The train was terminated and Amtrak sent the passengers by bus to Kansas City and their other destinations along the way.

Magliari said it is unclear why one of the train’s three cars left the track.

Amtrak and Union Pacific Railroad, the company that owns the train line, will conduct an investigation.
