NORFOLK, Va. — James Squires, chairman, president and CEO of Norfolk Southern, saw his total compensation package in 2017 rise nearly 42 percent, to $11.93 million from $8.42 million. The total pay calculation encompasses an array of categories, including salary, performance-based bonuses, changes in pension value and stock and option awards. Squires’ base salary in 2017 rose to $1 million from $900,000, while his incentive pay more than tripled — to $2.6 million from nearly $725,000 the previous year.
