(Norfolk Southern issued the following news release on March 25.)

NORFOLK, VA — Norfolk Southern Corporation has been recognized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection as a certified member of the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT), a voluntary government-business initiative to improve supply chain and border security.

Through C-TPAT, Norfolk Southern and other rail, air and sea carriers confirm the secure handling of import/export freight while in their hands, share best practices and communicate security guidelines to their customers and transportation partners.

“C-TPAT complements our ongoing efforts to ensure safe, reliable rail service,” said Robert E. Martinez, NS vice president business development. “This program should help create an increasingly secure and efficient U.S. supply chain.”

More information about C-TPAT is available at the U.S. Customs Web site at www.customs.ustreas.gov/xp/cgov/import/commercial_enforcement/ctpat/.

More information about national rail security is available at the Association of American Railroads Web site at www.aar.org.
